Coppicing is a traditional method of woodland management which exploits the capacity of many species of trees to put out new shoots from their stump or roots if cut down. Young tree stems are repeatedly cut down to near ground level resulting in a stool. New growth emerges and after a number of years, the coppice tree is harvested, and the cycle begins anew.

Crown lifting is the pruning technique of removing lower branches on a mature tree which lifts the canopy or crown of the tree. The removal of soft growth and branches of a tree creates a desired vertical clearance above a garden or structure.

Crown thinning is the removal of a portion of smaller /tertiary branches, usually the outer crown, to produce a uniform density of foliage around an evenly spaced branch structure. It is usually confined to broadleaf species. crown thinning does not alter the overall size or shape of the tree.

Pollarding is the technique of regularly pruning trees back to a trunk to form a head of branches. Pollarding is carried out for several reasons: to restrict growth of a tree in a confined space, to create a formal shape, to encourage the production of stems with more colourful leaves and decorative bark, both of which are brighter on the young, vigorous growth that hard pruning stimulates.

We’re experts in removing single or multiple trees safely, with minimal disruption, and in accordance with best practice.

If a tree has become a danger to nearby buildings or the public, our experienced tree surgeons will undertake a full risk assessment, and always advise on the best method to proceed prior to conducting full or sectional felling. Our team will liaise with local authorities and planning departments where necessary to ensure your tree removal adheres to conservation and planning consent issues.

We use stump grinders and excavators to remove stumps when required to provide you with the with a useable space.
